Legal name change is relatively low cost (should be less than $500).
After that, do a name change with Social Security, drivers%26#039; license, credit cards, etc. (there may be administrative fees, but should not cost more than a couple of hundred total).
It does take time and effort on your part.

Technically, you can decide to change your name, and then just get everyone to call you %26#039;Dave%26#039; or whatever. You would only have to change it by deed poll if you wanted to get a passport or something, and the price would depend on which solicitors you used.|||Depends on who you are.
