I've researched this and I read that you have to have a jduge's approval in order to legally change your last name.
This is my problem. I have a very generic sounding last name, and a very generic first name. I feel like I don't have an identity, the name is so common that it isn't something unique to me. I got stuck with both an extremely common first name and extremely common last name and I feel like a nobody.
I want to have a Spanish sounding last name.
What if your name makes you so miserable that you can't stand it?
It makes me crazy, because I just feel like a nobody with a name so common that I don't feel like a unique individual.
I also want people to know that I have spanish ancestry.

once you are an adult you can apply to as court to swear out a deed poll and this is quit easy to do (most lawyers or solicitors would advise you on this) In Australia I went into a solicitor who was also a JP and here in UK I simply took my son (who needed to change his last name) to a magistrates court, the office helped write out the application, we went before the court who merely confirmed the details then waited outside the office whilst the deed poll was drawn up and then signed by the judge, and that was it. As long as you are not intending to change your name in order to defraud or commit crime no problem. Also you can simply adopt a new name, but it is much better to do it via a deed poll.

It was your given name, the one thing you will ALWAYS have with you, something your parents gave you. Why would you change it? So, it's common big deal? Everybody has my middle name, but I still love it. I say just keep it.
