I live in Australia. We celebrate Christmas, sing carols, say 'Merry Christmas!!'... or at least we did. The do-gooders here banned christmas carols in school recently, because it 'may offend the beliefs of Muslims'. They wanted us to say 'Happy holidays', to respect those who don't celebrate christmas. It seems that we are losing out countries traditions, to make the minority groups feel 'welcome' and to show respect to them. Im far from being a racist, but if you've moved to OUR country, shouldn't you abide by OUR rules and long running traditions..??
I bet when westerners go to Iran, 'the Iraq', Afghanastan, or 'places such as' (thanks Miss Teen South Carolina), they don't change their ways to accomodate us 'Infidels'.
How do YOU feel about this...??
Is Multiculturisim killing your countries identity..??
Multi-culturalism as well as multi-racialism has totally killed any sense of national identity in the U.K.
Anyone who has this opinion is accused of being racist but to be honest, I'm past caring.
I'm supposed to welcome the melting pot that is today's U.K. irrespective of the fact that the sons of mainly black immigrants, as well as eastern Europeans and Asians have turned knife crime into a national pastime.
I've always voted for the Labour Party but I do think that John Howard had it right in Australia.
If you're not prepared to accept the ways of the country you emigrate to then go back where you come from!
'Happy Holiday; my ars*e!' As far as I'm concerned it will always be 'Merry Christmas!'
Is Multiculturisim killing your countries identity..??
Yep, sometimes all this is upsetting, but are lucky to live in countries where at least we TRY to make people feel comfortable and relatively welcome. Our %26quot;open%26quot; societies will suffer from political correctness, true, but at least we have the right and freedom to debate these issues openly.
If this were Yahoo Answers Iran or North Korea, a %26quot;Political Action Squad%26quot; would be on the way to your house as we speak. Be proud that your country serves as an example.
i think thats too much power and there should just be respect for all faiths. When appealing to a large crowd i like to say Merry Christmas, Happy Ramadan, Happy Kwanzaa, and all the others even though i just celebrate only christmas. telling people they cant say those things provides the opposite results of equality.
I take my customs were ever I go and I try to respect the ones in the place were I go to.
But if you have certain customs, is good to respect them. For example, I wouldn't force a Catholic to become Christian if it doesn't want to (like many Christians try)... it's disrespectful and denigrating.
Not because you're Aussie, you have to become full US or Hispanic to come down here. At least that's what I think.
no it is creating a new culture, it always happens, in the USA everyone used to be English or German in the beginning until the great potato famine then the Irish came over. its funny when you think about it today because Irish are white people, they were discriminated against and people hated them cause they were immigrants
I'm not racist like you, but I don't think so. Where I live is mostly white.
I doubt it.
yes
I lived with Multiculturalism down to my family and environment and they chose to identify with one lifestyle out of their own choice and I chose to identify myself as a Brit. I celebrated Eid, Xmas, Hannukah, Diwali et all as a kid. Every year I fly to the East and celebrate my Muslim festivities with my family. Nowadays I still give out Xmas cards and pressies aswell and wish people of other faiths well on their celebration days providing they mean something peaceful like New Year. It's the culture here and if anyone who says different wants to complain they don't have to live here. In Muslim countries I can tell you for a fact that non Muslim communities DO join in the festivities out of their own choice aswell and vice versa without anyone thinking they are 'sacrificing' their cultural interests. Perhaps you may want to stop pointing fingers at those who are of a different ID than you and start barking at the PC gang trying to seperate real intergration, who, for some strange reason are the real so called natives of your home countries.
yes it happens here too in England. I heard the other week that the hymn %26quot;Jerusalem%26quot; had been banned from being sung in some church somewhere because it was too %26quot;English%26quot; and therefore considered racist. A school in Birmingham didnt put on a nativity play at christmas, because the majority of the kids at that school were muslim. A taxi firm in Bradford had the Union Flag on the side of the taxi's and they had to remove it incase it offended the muslims as unfortunately, the National Front use it as their emblem. The last time the European Cup was being played, certain local councils tried to ban the England flag from being displayed outside houses and pubs etc. The world has gone mad. I like the post here somewhere where the person calls you racist, and then says she lives in a white neighbourhood! haha I really hope she was being sarky!
I Go to an international school in Geneva, and we are the most mulit-cultural school in the world.. as the facts show. And if you asked me if i was angry at having to say 'happy holidays' to my friends instead of 'merry christmas' I would laugh at you... What do i care, Switzerland is a christian country but they dont b*tch about having to say 'joyeux fetes' because the new culture of the 21st century is this new multi-culturalism. Dont be so prideful that you think that the others should in some way conform to your way of life. I couldnt care less how people adress me before the holidays or any other time.
