Has this ever happened to you? How did it turn out? Or are you still worrying about it? What did you do when you found out?.
Have you ever had your identity stolen?
Yes,I had it stolen in 2005.I found out because my work wanted to start doing direct deposit so I had never had a bank account before.I went to the bank and was told I couldn't open an account because I had bounced checks.Well, they gave me a 1-800 number to call for echeck company which brought up the bounced checks.Come to find out someone used my drivers licence number, got a copy of my license from the online state site for the motor vehicles department personal information to open bank accounts all over in 6 states.I had over 500 bounced checks, warrants in 3 states and this person also had gotten a car in my name with my drivers license and never paid for it and had written a bounce check for the down payment for the car.
Long story short,I had to call the federal trade commission, make police reports and contact the DMV.It took about 6 months to get everything fixed and I had to get copies of my credit reports to see that this person had 11 different addresses with my name, drivers license number and ID card.It was a big F'in mess.In the end the person got caught, arrested in Dallas and was on the FBI's top most wanted for ID theft. It's a mess to fix but you can find the person and press charges. In the end the ID theft prompted me to begin my current career in bail bonds/private investigations. So in the end it worked out.Good luck to you and make sure to close all accounts, flag and freeze your credit and make sure you report this to the police.
